Abstract
Discusses how myths concerning the history of Jamaica relate to actual history. Argues that myths living on in Jamaica, though not representing it literally, are in fact based on history. Exemplifies this by focusing on the myth living on in the village of Woodside, of the haughty slave mistress Mrs. Neilson, who inherited an estate with slaves from her husband. Based on investigation the author concludes that the myths relate to incidents when Mrs. Neilson negatively influenced and obstructed (ex-) slaves.....
