Abstract
Focuses on the meaning of oppression and marginalisation based on gender and race in the works of Lorna Goodison and Elean Thomas. Argues that oppression takes many forms in their poems. Also points at other similarities such as the fact that Goodison's and Thomas' poetic concerns extend beyond Jamaica and both affirm the literary value of the Jamaican vernacular, as they switch from Standard English to Jamaican Creole.....
