Abstract
Augusta Zelia Fraser accompanied her railroad engineer husband to Jamaica in the 1890s, and wrote a number of short stories and at least one full-length novel, Lucilla, that reflect her perceptions of 'creole' life in Jamaica. Writing under the pseuedonym Alice Spinner, her works emphasise the life style of Jamaicans at the end of the nineteenth century, the complex social intercourse between the races, between race and culture, and query the ultimate worth of Empire.....
