Abstract
Discusses the gradual emergence of Caribbean poetry in English. Beginning about fifty years ago as a mimicking of English poetry, its maturing and ascendancy was, in effect, recognised in 1992 when Derek Walcott was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
