Abstract
The French speaking areas of Haiti, French Guiana and the French West Indies are excluded from consideration in this paper. Foremost in this discussion of Latin American studies on the Mona Campus is the driving force of the Latin American Caribbean Centre(LACC) of the Office of Administration and Special Initiatives, UWI, Mona. Though located on the Mona Campus, the centre develops programs involving the three campuses of the University of the West Indies. Its main objective being to promote understanding and cooperation between Latin America and Caribbean countries, it acts as a facilitator for the development of institutional agreements leading to the implementation of projects involving language, culture and academic exchange. Many successful projects and collaborative research relationships, as a result of bilateral agreements, are discussed, also the University’s curriculum in support of Latin American studies, its library resources and the long enduring connection (notably immigration) between countries of the English-speaking Caribbean and many countries of Latin America.....
