Abstract
Microhaematuria is a common incidental finding when using a urine dipstick in clinical practice. Investigations are often costly and time consuming, and the source of such haematuria frequently is not found. Such investigations should be selective and guided by the results of urine microscopy. Further specific and appropriate studies in the correct sequence can be ordered depeding on whether the source of bleeding is glomerular or non-glomerular. The appropriate specialist, that is a nephrologist or a urologist, may then be recommended. This approach is the safest and the most cost effective.....
