Abstract
Presents a discussion on two types of Caribbean music (reggae and calypso) with a view to showing their role in social development. Traces the evolution of reggae and calypso music and argues that these genres of music attack the hegemony of the ruling elites of Caribbean society, while at the same time reinforcing the very social structures which they attack, which is a contradictory phenomenon.....
