Abstract
Argues that the applicability of the theoretical insights of organizational theory to the Caribbean is limited. The notion of rationality as understood from the Weberian or non-Weberian perspectives, cannot be fully applied to the Caribbean context, because of the region's uniqueness. Suggests that the low worker morale, poor work ethic among workers and low productivity are due to special conditions in the Caribbean economy. The hierarchical structure of Caribbean organizations is a legacy of British colonial rule ... which ensured effective governance at the expense of efficiency. Suggests some methods for improving the effectiveness of Caribbean organizations.....
