Abstract
Examines three important insurrectionary events in the post independence history of the Commonwealth Caribbean, focusing on the cumulative and available ideological context in order to better understand why these events occured and why they had particular outcomes. Looks at the 1970 Black Power 'Revolution' in Trinidad and Tobago and the subsequent army uprising; the 1979 insurrection of the new Jewel Movement against the Gairy Government which led to its overthrow and the establishment of the short-lived People's Revolutionary Government in Grenada; and the 1990 failed coup attempt led by Abu Bakr and the Jamaat al Muslimeen in Trinidad and Tobago.....
