Abstract
States that Carl Stone has been among the most prolific, socially active and insightful of recent Caribbean social scientists, but his work, throughout his career and in the two years since his death has not been subject to sustained critical appraisal. Seeks to redress this imbalance by sketching the broad parameters of Stone's work and suggesting a number of the critical issues which need to be actively pursued by other scholars. Proposes that Stone, while overtly theoretical in his approach, was in substance a radical democrat, who sought in his multi-faceted work to forge a counter-hegemonic discourse appropriate to Jamaican society.....
