A note on a Quaternary palaeo-channel found at the Berrydale Quarry, near Discovery Bay, parish of St. Ann, Jamaica
Journal of the Geological Society of Jamaica
Date of Publication
The Pleistocene sedimentary record of Jamaica tends to be limited to accretionary coastal facies. Large-scale erosional sedimentary structures from this period have not been reported in Jamaica previously. A cut-and-fill structure was discovered in a disused quarry at Berrydale, near Discovery Bay in the parish of St. Ann. This structure is interpreted as a Pleistocene submarine palaeo-channel within the Hopegate Formation. The cross-sectional view of the structure suggests a palaeo-flow direction to the NNE. The channel was infilled by bioclastic material derived from the reefal facies of the Hopegate Formation.....
