Abstract
Introduction outlining three areas in which a geographical perspective is important for the Caribbean region: economic development and its geographical context; environmental risk and environmental change; and human impacts on island environments. Indicates useful research contributions made by geographers in each of these areas. Discusses the rationale for the inaugural British-Caribbean Geography Seminar, which was held in Kingston, Jamaica in 1992.
