Abstract
The first fossil echinoid described from the Lower Oligocene of Jamaica is referred to as Gagaria? sp. The only known specimen is from the Walderston Formation, deposited in a low energy, lagoonal palaeoenvironment. Gagaria? sp. has crenulate imperforate, primary tubercles and trigeminate ambulacral plates with acrosaleniid compounding. The Jamaican species is not conspecific with any coeval Gagaria? species from the southeastern U.S.A., nor with Thylechinus sp. from the Lower Oligocene San Sebastian Formation of Puerto Rico.
