Testing the marine and continental fossil records: Comment
Date of Publication
Benton and Simms (1995) presented a comparative analysis of the fossil records of continental vertebrates and echinoderms showing, quite unexpectedly, that the two are of comparative 'quality' at least at the familial level. There are direct implications of this result; it also begs further analyses of other groups with complex, multielement skeletons, such as the marine vertebrates, marine arthropods and terrestrial arthropods.
