Abstract
Discusses development in three forms: development as economic growth, development as growth and structural change and development as a multi-faceted process. Considers the Lewis dual economy model of 'economic development with unlimited supplies of labour' and the centre-periphery model of development/underdevelopment. Finally, addresses development strategies pursued in the region. These are industrialization by invitation, statist development and structural adjustment export-led development.
