Abstract
While safe, convenient and reversible pharmacological contraceptives are available for women, those available for men are either difficult to reverse or not particularly reliable. Describes the available measures for male contraception including vasectomy and concentrates further on attempts to develop pharmacological contraceptives for men. Testis structure and the endocrine control of spermatogenesis serve as a basis for these attempts. There are several in roads to disrupting spermatogenesis such as administration of testosterone and related substances as well as agonists and antagonists of gonadotropins. Immunological and chemical approaches have also been tested. Although such attempts have not yet found a safe pharmacological contraceptive for men, most workers in the field agree that a breakthrough may be expected soon.....
