Peat deposits over 1 m thick underlie about 83 km2 of Jamaican coastal wetlands in two major deposits at Negril and the Lower Morass of the Black River. The estimated reserves of peat in these deposits exceed 25 Mt (at 35% moisture), with maximum thickness reaching 16m.
