Abstract
Presents the background from which violence among youths in Jamaica emanates. Discusses the social and economic realities, youth involvement in violence, causes of modern violence and the characteristics of modern society. Reviews studies that show that many youths experience violence as children and suggests that adults are unwittingly setting the stage for the continuation and further escalation of violence. Describes programmes such as Peace and Love in our Schools (PALS), Change from Within and the Hanover Dispute Resolution Project as initiatives designed to arrest the increase in violence in the Jamaican society.....
