Abstract
Presents some ideas on crime control in Jamaica . Discusses the sources of the high rate of violent crime, including marginalization of a high proportion of the urban poor and easy access to firearms. Looks at political, financial and manpower constraints on the development of policy. Highlights some general principles that may be useful for policy development and possible implementation strategies. Advocates that law enforcement and crime control should be based on coordination of the informal power of the community with the formal state police power.....
