Abstract
Considers the extent to which some aspects of behaviour of young people can influence the growth and development potential of the economy in Jamaica. Using the 1997 Reproductive Health Survey of Jamaica as a basis for the study their findings show that youth still remains the dominant sector of the population and as such government policies should be geared to the exploitation of this potential source of economic growth and national development. Confirms that a high proportion of young people are sexually active, and engaged in unprotected sex, and hold cultural beliefs that encourage unprotected sex and high levels of fertility.
