Abstract
Discusses endemic species and sub-species of birds in Jamaica and stresses that the endemic flora and fauna are as much part of the nation's heritage as are cultural artefacts. Examines the populations of birds at Guava Ridge in St. Andrew and concludes that the endemic species have a preference for the small pockets of natural forest, rather than introduced pine and eucalyptus plantations, as habitat. Supports the notion that protection of the genetic pool of endemic bird species requires careful conservation of all natural forest areas.....
