Abstract
The author approprately gives a definition for environmental chemistry to provide a focus for his argument. A brief overview is given of atoms, molecules, ions, the chemical bond, molecular and ionic shapes, geometries and chemical reactions, as the author considers these topics essential to the understanding of chemical change. The structure and composition of the earth's environment are discussed and central to the discussions is the concept of speciation. The author concludes that there is a limited understanding of how the environment works and that an understanding of chemical processes in the environment is at an elementary stage. Tables, graphs and charts support the discussion.....
