Abstract
This chapter investigates patterns of encroachment and forest clearance around Troy and Heading in the parish of Trelawny. The paper outlines the physical and human geography of the study area, followed by discussions of the patterns, types, location and temporal changes of farming encroachments and clearance rates on the southern and northern borders. The extent of encroachment in relation to the penetrability of the karst terrain in each area is then briefly discussed. A preliminary analysis of deforestation rates in the two areas is presented, and the proposed national park boundary and buffer zone are also discussed in relation to the development of a sensible management strategy for the park.....
