Abstract
The ackee plant (Blighia sapida Koening) is a member of the family Sapindaceae, which comprises 140 genera and approximately 1,500 species of trees and shrubs, or more rarely, herbs. This evergreen shade tree is of ubiquitous distribution in Jamaica where the aril of its fruit is regarded as a staple in the diet of the people.
