Abstract
Examines restrictions on mixing that keep re-occuring varieties within a single language apart and thus preserve their autonomy. At the same time, discusses that recurring problems of definition in the face of striking differences beween some Caribbean vernaculars and others lie behind a proposal for a cline of creoleness.
