Abstract
Reports on a study of primary education in the Commonwealth Caribbean and looks specifically at the language arts/reading curriculum considered significant for the development of literacy. Investigates the extent to which training programmes in language arts/reading prepare primary school teachers in colleges to teach stipulated curriculum content, use appropriate methods and teaching techniques, teach underachievers, and apply and use new technology to aid instruction Also looks at the nature of the interface between teachers colleges and planning/policy and curriculum development units in ministries of education.
