Abstract
Suggests that the talkative women in Jamaica, like men, have to hold the performance floor, particularly in the media, if they want to be heard. Argues that there can be no doubt that many axioms about gendered behaviour, like those associated with other cultural attributes, reflect norms and categories of measurement spawned by the metropolitan West, while much interesting variation which is significant to nonmainstream cultures either goes unremarked or gets short shifted.....
