Examines the prolonged duration of the dominance of white and coloured upper middle class leadership in the labour movement in Jamaica. Shows that whereas in almost every other Caribbean territory, this type of leadership had been replaced by a black working class or lower middle class members by the 1950s it still continued into the post-independence period in Jamaica.....
