Abstract
Contrary to the belief that the West Indian planters did not make use of the technological improvements that helped to develop British agriculture, shows that the Boulton and Watt steam engine was widely utilised in Jamaica and particularly in the Parish of Vere. Even though the efficiency of the steam engine had not yet been fully proved, by 1830 they had begun to replace water powered mills.....
