The contact between the Troy Formation and the Troja granodiorite in the area east of Riversdale, parish of St. Catherine
The Journal of the Geological Society of Jamaica
Date of Publication
Records an exposure of (presumably) the Troja stock, to the east of Riversdale, parish of St. Catherine, that escaped the notice of the surveyors of the 1:50,000 geological sheet of the area (Green, 1972). This moderately extensive exposure of granodiorite occurs in a cutting of the disused Kingston to Port Antonio railway, east of Riversdale, presumably since the line opened to Port Antonio in 1896. The granodiorite is in faulted contact with Eocene limestones of the Troy Formation. The strike of this fault (160°)follows a similar trend to certain other faulted contacts between the Above Rocks Inlier and the White Limestone Group. The Troy Formation dips away from either side of the granodiorite fault block, possibly indicating fault drag. A tunnel on this line may be a structure designed to prevent debris flows of the highly weathered granodiorite onto the permanent way.....
