Abstract
Explores the diversity of the economy and society of Jamaica during slavery by analysing the occupations of the slaves on coffee plantations. Takes into account the nature and seasonality of the tasks they were assigned as well as the methods of distribution and concludes that there were similarities in the basic principles of organisation and classification between the sugar plantation and the coffee plantation, but there was a greater degree of flexibility on the latter.....
