Abstract
Discusses labour bargaining strategies employed by enslaved peoples in the Caribbean alongside the expected revolutionary challenges to the entire plantation system. Using St. Kitts and Nevis as examples, argues that the development of bargaining strategies by the enslaved and their free descendants, reflects both their acceptance of their historical reality and their concerted efforts to change that reality by transforming the economic reality that bound them to enslavers and employers.....
