Abstract
Attempts to correct some traditional perceptions by detailing the economic activities of Indo-Jamaican women during and after their period of contract labour. Shows that Indian women in Jamaica, the majority of whom laboured on large sugar and banana plantations, contributed to the continuation of the capitalist plantation system after the abolition of slavery, and that they were not all peripheral to developments in the post-slavery period.....
