Direct Effect of Nitric Oxide on Basal and Insulin-Stimulated Glucose Transport in Rat Skeletal Muscle.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to determine whether nitric oxide (NO) released from S-nitro-N-acetyl-D, L-penicillamine (SNAP) exert direct effect on basal and insulin-stimulated glucose transport in skeletal muscle. Method: Isolated skeletal muscle from Wistar rats was incubated with SNAP (100 Ámol - 1000 Ámol, 10 mmol - 20 mmol) in th epresence or absence of 10 Ámol of insulin. Glucose transport was assessed by measuring the accumulation of alabelled analog, D-glucose [ 1 - 3H (N)] in isolated skeletal muscle.....
