Date of Publication
Objective: To explore the ways in which adolescents from a Jamaican inner-city community constructed their social lives. Method: This study was conducted from the theoretical perspective of social constructionism. Over a two-year period, videotapes were made of group sessions conducted by a community intrevention team with adolescents at their inner-city school. These tapes were reviewed and one student identified as the main subject of the research, based on the level of participation observed. This included, but was not restricted to, the interactions of the main subject. Prominent themes were identified. Conclusion: A novel combination and application of established qualitative methodologies demonstrated important concepts that should be considered in the planning of public health and community outreach programmes which target inner-city youths.....
