Medical Students' Performance in the Final Examination in Medicine and Therapeutics [Abstract]

Objective: This study seeks to compare the performances of male and female medical students in the 2004 final examination in Medicine and Therapeutics at the Mona and St. Augustine campuses of the University of the West Indies. Method: The final examination in Medicine and Therapeutics consists of three parts: a written paper, a multiple choice examination (MCQ) and an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). Students' mean scores for each examination component were compared on the basis of gender for each ot the two campuses. Conclusion: Female students outperformed their male counterparts on all components of the Medicine and Therapeutics examination at St. Augustine and on the MCQ component at the Mona campus.....
