An abdominal mass in an eleven-year old boy

A clinicopathological presentation of a case of an 11 year old male with a three month history of intermittent , colicky, right-sided abdominal pain, anorexiia and marked weight loss admitted to the Department of Child Health. There was a one-month history of generalised hyper-pigmentation, scaling and exfoliation of the skin and a firm non-tender swelling in the right groin. A week prior to admission he developed abdominal distension, swelling of the left leg, shortness of breath and joint pain. there was no history of fever, jaundice, night sweats, cough, wheeze, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or urinary symptoms . there was also no history of of drug ingestion, or familiy history of collagen vascular disease, malignancy, renal or hepatic disease. He had beeen admitted to another hospital 6 weeks earlier with a presumptive diagnosis of ureteric colic.....
