Utilization of stereotaxy in brain biopsy: A more refined and accurate method of localization [Abstract]

Objective: To review the results of stereotactic brain biopsy at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) from August 2002 to October, 2004. Patients and Method: All patients treated at the UHWI during the review period were retrieved from the section of surgery database and crossed referenced using the operating room logbook and the medical records department charts and the division of neurosurgery stereotactic database. Demographic data, diagnosis, operative procedures,operative reports and patient outcome were extracted and analyzed. Conclusions: The use of stereotaxy leads to more efficient utilization of premium operating time and is associated with a higher level of accuracy and less complications.....
