Objective: To determine the nitric oxide (NO) status of Jamaican women with pre-eclampsia (PE) and investigate whether booking blood pressure (BP) and polymorphins in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene predispose to developing disorder. pregnancy outcome was also investigated. Method: One hundred and three participants (50 with PE and 53 controls) were recruited from the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). Blood samples were collected in the fasted state and BP and pregnancy outcome data were obtained from the dockets. Nitric oxide was measured using a commercially available kit. Subjects were genotyped for the following eNOS polymorphins: 27bp VNTR in intron 4 (4b/4b ®4a/4a) and at nucleotides - 786 (T® C) ,, 298 (G ® T) and 10 (G ® T).....
