Abstract
Clinical guidelines are systematically developed, evidence-based, clinically workable statements that aim to provide consistent and high quality care for patients and are meant to to facilitate best medical practice. However the existence of good guidelines does not guarantee either wide or consistence use and despite the efforts made in developing them not enough has been done to encourage their implementation. This editorial examines the challenges of translating evidence-based guidelines into clinical practices and comments on the results of a National survey on preoperative fasting policies and practices in Jamaica.....
