Abstract
Focuses on reduplications that are associated with a diminutive or approximate interpretation. Examples of this type of reduplication are taken from the Caribbean Creole languages Jamaican, Ndyuka and Sranan. These reduplications denote either a property or an activity that is not present to the same extent as is true of its simplex counterpart. The question that this paper addresses is how reduplications such as those mentioned bear on the oberservation that 'the most outstanding single concept that reduplicative constructions recurrently express in various languages is the concept of increased quantity.'....
