Abstract
Examines the evolution of work cultures and labour relations in the region of the Commonwealth Caribbean. The focus is the period after emancipation in which labour problem in the British Caribbean was shaped by racial perceptions on the capacity of non-European and in particular African populations to operate with a modern capitalist industrial system.
