Abstract
Examines the performance of a rarely-traded sector in a small, developing country: the health sector of the Jamaican economy. It relies on primary and secondary data to assess the competiveness of the Jamaican health sector in relation to comparator sectors in other countries, including the use of statistical analysis to assess the drivers of performance in health across a broad range of countries. Notes that the Jamaican health system has performed relatively well, based upon a focus on primary health care, executed, in part, through relatively high levels of doctoral coverage.
