Abstract
In recent decades, financial crises have threatened the financial and monetary systems of many developing countries. The paper looks particularly at Jamaica’s financial crisis in the mid 1990s. It examines Jamaica’s response to its financial crisis (a deviation from IMF recommendations) and argues that assessing local conditions and utilizing the knowledge and expertise of national stakeholders are integral to successful crisis management.
