Abstract
Extensin peroxidase is an enzyme that is associated with the cell wall of plants. Its major function is to cross-link the complex hydroxyproline-rich extensin module, resulting in a fortified cell wall. Failure to cross-link extensin due to the inhibition of this enzyme will result in weakened cell walls susceptible to attack by various plant pathogens. The report investigates whether an oxidant other than H2O2 and derived from washed tomato cells can be used by extensin peroxidase to crosslink extensin precursor in vitro. An endogenous inhibitor that selectively inhibits extensin peroxidase is also demonstrated.....
