Jamaica is a Caribbean island which boasts a number of microclimates and this is reflected in the wide diversity of plants and microbial life. Hyptis verticillata (Jacq.)a member of the Lamiaceae, has been widely used in traditional medicine. Investigations into the components of the organic extract of the plant yielded a number of lignans, triterpenes and flavonoids. The herb was also found to produce two sesquiterpenes.
