Abstract
Despite the paucity of research on childrearing in the Caribbean, the research that exists does point to the influence of class, race and gender in these practices, and it is clear that they are powerful influences on the process of socialization. Calls for the interactions of these variables to be made the subject of detailed research and analysis so that their combined influence can be more accurately assessed. Also sees a need for education of parents, teachers and potential parents and the involvement of societal institutions, so that an awareness of social issues such as these can be used to create home and school environments in which there is a commitment to recognizing and valuing differences.....
