In this article provisions made for the treatment of Jamaica Creole (Mother Tongue) throughout the education system in Jamaica and the views and practices of teachers invloved in the delivery of Language Arts throughout that system are investigated. The appropriation of conventional process and practices in reading, storytelling and story writing in the design of the Curriculum Document Analysis Web, the Story-Plot Interview Guide and the Informal Conversational Guide allowed the researcher to see curriculum and classroom practice differently; and in making the familiar strange, to uncover a pedagogy of indigenous critical praxis characterized by intuition, initiative, intervention, innovation and inquiry as teachers teach themselves to teach English in a Creole-speaking environment.....
