Abstract
Nine women aged 18 to 42 years, who underwent Caesarian operation, were studied. The gestational ages ranged from 35 to 40 weeks, and the duration of section varied between 35 and 42 min. A significant post-operative peak response in cortisol, and marked hyperfibrinogenaemia were shown. The enhanced production of fibrinogen under stressful conditions such as surgery, is regulated by a combination of stimuli, including that of cortisol. A possible role for cortisol in the mechanism underlying post-operative hyperfibrinogenaemia is suggested.....
